PS Ch.--"Merging On!"

The mail merge is an effective tool for creating personalized publications. This feature guides you through the merging process and allows you to customize both your data source and your publication. It unites the power of the database and the functionality of the desktop publishing program.

PS Ch.--"Do You Need Help?"

First you would open your Master Page, to do this you go to View on the menu bar and click Master Page. After doing this you would go back to View and click Header and Footer. This appears on your master page and you would put what ever you need in the header text box and then what ever you need to put in the footer text box.

There is too much white space, the contact information should not be tilted the way it is, "trip" is misspelled, the coloring could be a little better coordinated, and the pictures shouldn’t come between the words but maybe next to the words. There are things that can be fixed to make this a lot more interesting, such as maybe make the pictures larger, make the words a bit larger, and choose a better color scheme.

PS Ch.5--"Advantages"

There are two advantages to using columns instead of single columns. First, it makes the text easier to scan. Second it improves its appearance. This way the text doesn't seem to run together when you are reading a single columned text paper, and it is a lot simpler to follow.

PS Ch.4--"My Future With Publisher"

I can see myself using Publisher in the future when I own my own business and need to hand out my business cards to people. This means I would use Microsoft Publisher to make my business cards.

PS Ch.3--"Articles on Publisher"

Ziff Davis is a business owner and decided he needed a business card. He decided that it would take way too long to send it out to a printer, so he used Microsoft Publisher. In this he took a JPEG graphic and the logo and made a Adobe Acrobat PDF. This way he knew what he already wanted and he could drop it off at what he thought was the fastest printing business, which was FedEx Kinkos. He did it this way because it is less time consuming, he can put his own ideas on it, and it was less expensive.

PS Ch.2--" Something New"

I learned how to use the Publications for Print category. To do this you need to click on Publications for Print category, after doing so you need to decide what kind of layout you want. So say it is a For Sale sign, you scroll down in the list and click on Signs. After doing this you look for a For Sale sign that you want and just click it. It pops up for you and tells you what goes where.

PS Ch.1--"My Initial Thoughts"

My initial thought about this class were “this is going to be so simple”, but the further I got into it I started to realize that it was a lot harder than I thought. Microsoft Word was extremely simple, then there was Excel which wasn’t too hard but it was easy to get through. Then came PowerPoint and I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do it, but I was wrong I did it. After I finished PowerPoint I had the choice to do either Publisher or take a Keyboarding Lesson. I decided to do Publisher. I had no idea that it was this hard to do. Just the first unit took me for ever, it is simple I guess I just have problems following directions maybe. But there is a lot more to this class

PS Ch.10--"MUSIC IN CLASS NOW!"

My friend Jacqu’e Carey used a PowerPoint presentation to show Mr. Asmus that kids who listen to music during class get a lot more work done. She had slides with ratings on them, pictures of kids in this class listening to music and working hard, and kids who just sit there and work. The results were very good because Jacqu’e had so many facts in her PowerPoint presentation she proved to Mr. Asmus that letting kids listen to music is better than not letting them. And now most of the kids are ahead in the class because they could relax and listen to their choice of music while working.

PS Ch.8-- "Ooooo Pretty"

To change the background of slides in a presentation, open the Format menu and choose Background. The background dialog box opens. The current background color displays in the list box in the Background fill area. Click the list arrow next to the background color to see the options you have to change the background. Click Fill Affects, and choose the Picture tab. In the Picture tab you will see no pictures I the Picture box because you haven’t selected it yet. So then you will hit Select Picture button and search for the picture you want. When you hit Select Picture a pop up box will appear so just hit Ok. Then choose the file in which you picture is saved. Select the picture you want and hit insert. After doing so the picture you choose will be in the Picture box, this is giving you an example of what the slide will look like. Hit Ok and then that box disappears and a little box appears, go ahead and hit Apply or Apply to All. Then there you go.

PS Ch.9--"Paste Me Baby"

You can add both information and pizzazz to documents created in other Office applications by copying PowerPoint slides and pasting them into documents, worksheets, and database forms and reports. Copy a PowerPoint slide in Slide Sorter view by selecting the slide you want and clicking the Copy button. The switch to your destination document and click the paste button. If you like, you can embed or link the slide using the Paste Special dialog box. A slide pasted into Word or Excel has the same properties as any other object. You can move it, resize it, and control how text wraps around it. A slide pasted into an Access report or form needs a little more work. You must paste the slide into a section in Design view and then change its properties so you can resize it and move it easily.

PS Ch.7--"HELP!"

If you want to use a motion picture/video or sound in your PowerPoint it is quite simple. It is possible; you can insert a sound or video from Clip Organizer or from a file. Now if you were to insert it from a file you would open the Insert menu. The drop down list appears, you would scroll down till you came across Movies and Sounds. It will then say from clip organizer or from file, this is when you choose from file. Then you would just go to the lesson chapter and find the picture or sound you wanted/need. If you wanted it from Clip Organizer then you would go to the Insert menu and go to Movies and Sounds. The drop box will open, it will read from file or Clip organizer, you will choose Clip Organizer and then just search for the name of the picture or sound and choose the one you want.

PS Ch.6--"Charts and Tables Oh My!"

Tables and charts are really important because they are a visual aid for any data which can be put in any program. Charts, tables, graphs, and all of those are an extensive way to show data easier. Without charts, tables, and graphs we wouldn’t know what we were looking at half the time, unless we take the time to write all the information down and figure it out that way. They prevail in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint because they are very versatile and can be used anywhere, and for anything.

PS Ch.5--"What did YOU Learn"

In this blog we are supposed to write about one of the features we learned about in lesson 5, I am going to write about the Find and Replace feature. This is a really helpful feature, it allows you to change your spelling mistakes in one shot. The find option can take you to a word you are not so sure about, or something you want to look at again. The replace option allows you to replace any word or phrase in a document all in one shot or alone, by itself. These to me are really helpful.

PS Ch.4--"My Future With PowerPoint"

The only reason why I can’t answer this prompt truthfully is because I don’t exactly know what I am going to be doing in my future, but if I were to become a teacher, like I might work towards here is what I see. I might use PowerPoint to show my students the solar system slideshow like in 4-1. I also might use it to teach my students, they could use it to show me what the project is. Now if I were to become something else I could use it to show a project in college, or use it to sell a product or anything else. Until later this is all I can think about.

PS Ch.3--"We Ask Ourselves Why?"

PowerPoint was probably developed to put your points across in a more creative way. With PowerPoint you can show pictures, graphs, tables, information, and a lot more. This is a lot better because you don’t have to waste paper, to hand out to people. I know if we were at an assembly and someone was talking and we just had to sit there I would get extremely bored and impatient. Although I still get antsy, it would just be better if there was a fun little visual show we could see as someone was explaining it. Developers probably saw that people could show a whole presentation without wasting paper and it would be fun and creative.

PS Ch.2--"Yes Master"

The Slide Master controls the formatting for all the slides in the presentation. The Slide Master increases productivity by letting you change one thing for all slides without you having to go through each one. It is letting you be lazy. You can change font, size, color, style, background, spacing, and alignment. Changing the Slide Master affects the appearance of all of the slides in a presentation associated with that master slide, and gives them a consistent look.

PS Ch.1--"What To View?"

You can use Notes Page to help you make a presentation, or as a handout to your audience to guide them through your presentation. The Notes Page view displays your slide on the top portion of the page, with the speaker notes for each slide in the notes pane on the bottom of the page. To add speaker notes, click in the notes pane and begin keying, or you can open the View menu and choose Notes Page.
